Why Our Market Would Survive a Recession

Here’s what our real estate market would do during a recession.

What will happen to the housing market if we have another recession? We can’t tell you when, or even if, a recession will take place, but we can tell that it might not affect the housing market as much as you think. History proves that a recession doesn’t always mean a housing crisis.

Let’s take a look at the housing market during recessions all the way back to 1980. As you can see in the chart at 0:20 in the video, home prices actually appreciated during most of our recent recessions. There were only two where we saw depreciation. It happened first in 1991, and the impact on prices was minimal. What everyone remembers is the housing crash of 2008 when homes lost nearly 20% of their value nationwide.
